The books should be read in order but are a series of separate, linking adventures with Gotrek, a doom-seeking, badass Dwarf Slayer and Felix, a Poet/Mercenary/Man of the Empire who has vowed to follow Gotrek and record is death in a great poem. There are 14 of them, and the first 12 are all great reads. The most common recommendation you'll get in the Universe is the Gotrek and Felix, which are absolutely worth their reputation. Sounds like you've got a lot of fun ahead of you. I can acknowledge that a lot of the fantasy novels in this universe are not objectively great books - some of them are pretty shoddy - so by all means put down something you're not enjoying and move on to the next. I really loved Gav Thorpe's Grudge Bearer, which is my favorite standalone Dawi novel. I have not read Shadow King, but it's on my shelf. Anybody getting steeped in these books will love the lore about as much as they love the specific factions involved, so I would go with whatever omnibus has the most interesting factions/species involved. All of these big omnibuses other than Gotrek and Felix suffer from this same paradigm though - their big priority is highlighting and enhancing the lore that all the tabletop players loosely know from the army books and whatnot. Learning about Nagash over so many pages in such depth was cool, especially if you like pseudo-Egyptian monster battles. I played the tabletop game a ways back, and Tomb Kings always felt underdeveloped and lesser known. I really love Nagash, but it is dense and it doesn't feel like you're really rooting for somebody half the time - just watching history unfold. Think we missed one?
